Approximately 190 upper-class students moved into the new Colgate townhouse complex this semester. The seven new townhouses and two gateway buildings, located just south of campus and within walking distance of the university, were completed this summer. "This was an ambitious and substantial project for the university, and I'm very impressed with the result," said Tim Mansfield, director of residential life. "Students will be thoroughly impressed with this new living opportunity on campus." As part of Colgate's residential education program, students applied to live in the housing by identifying a group goal for each townhouse. Residence themes include physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, community service, the "Study Abroad House" consisting of seniors who have participated in and encourage off-campus study, and the "Big Kids' House," which focuses on helping local schoolchildren through tutoring and other programs.
Students' 'Gate Cards allow students into the townhouses through the front doors, and the Colgate Cruiser schedule has been modified to accommodate townhouse residents. | |||||
