Dean of First-Year Students Beverly Low made a bet with
the seniors on the women's hockey squad — and she stuck to her word.
After learning she would not be able to make the team's Dartmouth/Harvard road
trip for the first time in four years, she issued this challenge: if Colgate
beat Dartmouth, the seniors could paint her face for a home game of their
choice. If Colgate beat Dartmouth and Harvard, the seniors could paint her face
and dye her hair red.
Although they lost to Harvard, the Raiders defeated the Big Green
2-1 on Nov. 11, the first win in program history over the perennial power.
Fitting, then, that the seniors chose their Feb. 9 matchup against Dartmouth
at Starr Rink, and Low was there — complete with face paint and other
adornments — to cheer them on. [Photo by Luke Connolly '09]
