Hockey highlights

For an unprecedented third-straight year, the men's hockey team put together a 20-win season en route to tying for first place in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League. One key element in their success was sophomore goalie Mark Dekanich, named the winner of the league's Ken Dryden Award, given to the goaltender of the year. During league play, Dekanich led the ECACHL with a 1.98 goals against average and a .934 saves percentage.

Joining Dekanich on the all-ECACHL first team was sophomore Tyler Burton, who led the league with 16 goals in conference play. Senior Kyle Wilson was a second team selection, and first-year defenseman Nick St. Pierre was selected to the all-rookie team.

Patriot League honors

Athletes in other winter sports recognized for their outstanding performances in Patriot League play included junior Michael Hanlon, first team in men's track; senior Lisa Germain, first team in women's track; senior Megan Ballard, first team in women's basketball; first-year Gretchen Polinski, all-rookie team; and senior Marc Falkner, first team in men's swimming.

Promotions and appointments

Football defensive coordinator/secondary coach Ed Pinkham has been promoted to associate head coach. "Ed has been with me throughout my tenure," said head coach Dick Biddle. "He has been a large part of our overall success, and I'm extremely pleased that we were able to reward him in this manner. His defenses have consistently ranked among the best in Division I-AA."

During Pinkham's time at Colgate, the Raiders have captured five Patriot League titles and earned five trips to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. His defensive unit led the Patriot League in total defense in 1999, 2003, and 2004, and has paced the league in rushing defense three times.

Vicky Chun '91 has been named assistant director of athletics. Chun, who has filled the position on an interim basis since last summer, has been executive director of the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association since 2001.

As head women's volleyball coach at Colgate from 1994 to 1997, Chun guided the Raiders to a 67-27 record, two Patriot League championships, and their first NCAA tournament berth. She was a four-year member of the volleyball squad and earned recognition as the Patriot League Player of the Year in 1991 and as a member of the league's all-decade team.
