|Gus Coldebella ’91 is the former General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In that position, Gus managed over 1,750 lawyers in the Department, advised Secretary Chertoff and other leadership on legal issues arising throughout the Department, oversaw the Department’s regulatory program, and coordinated with legal and policy officials around the executive branch, the White House, Congress and state and local governments on homeland security-related issues.
A philosophy major, Gus pursued a career in law after earning a J.D. from the Cornell Law School. He spent time as an attorney in the litigation department at Goodwin Proctor LLP in Boston, MA. As an active and engaged alumnus, Gus was elected to the Alumni Council in 2001 after giving back to Colgate through district clubs, admissions, class giving, and career services. He has served the Alumni Council for eight years in a number of roles, and is currently President-Elect.
To reward his dedication to alma mater, Gus has received a number of alumni awards, including the Annual Support Class Excellence Award and Alumni Maroon Citation Award.
